CAA Avalanche Operations Level 1 - Course Overview

Winter 2021 saw Mountain Safety Collective (MSC) start a program of paid professional field observations by two of our well-credentialed members, Luka Szczepanik and Kyle Boys. Kyle is certified under the NZ Avalanche Risk Management (Level 5) course and Luka completed the Canadian Avalanche Association’s Avalanche Operations (Level 1).

Australia’s first Avalanche Training Centre opens at Mount Hotham

If you’ve been to a major resort with serious backcountry overseas, chances are you’ve seen or used an Avalanche Training Centre (ATC). With over 60 ATC’s in the European Alps the Mountain Safety Collective managed to install the first one in the Southern Hemisphere this winter at Mount Hotham.
