We’re very excited to announce the support of Australia’s most accomplished freeride snowboarder, Michaela Davis-Meehan, as a Mountain Safety Collective ambassador in 2023.
Michaela has been a fixture on the Freeride World Tour since winning the qualifying series in 2019, leading to a second place finish overall in 2020 and a sixth place finish in 2021. This included being the first Australian, male or female, skier or snowboarder, to take gold in a FWT event alongside numerous other podium finishes over the years.
In 2023 it’s game on again with Michaela back on the FWT as a wildcard - the first snowboarder from Australia to be given this honour. The FWT starts in Kicking Horse, Canada on January 13th 2023 before events in Spain, Andorra, Austria and Switzerland.
Michaela comes from a slopestyle background having represented Australia at World Cups and World Championships and having made the Shadow Olympic team in 2014. Known for her resilience and big smile, she has overcome injury and distance from big mountains to continue to succeed at the highest level.
Her skills in some of the world's wildest mountains is evident in her sense of adventure and in her foray into big mountain films. Persian Powder documents a snowboarding trip to Iran, which won the "best film" category at the Women's Adventure Film Tour. More recently, Western Faces brings her closer to home with fellow MSC ambassador, Tim Macartney Snape, showcasing some of the gnarliest lines (and weather!) in the NSW backcountry.
We wish Michaela every success in her 2023 Freeride World Tour campaign and look forward to seeing her spread the word about backcountry safety to her legion of fans!
