Terrain and travel advice
In the subalpine coverage is still thin though, so please keep this in mind. There are still bushes and rocks just lurking beneath the snow that can be hazardous.
In the alpine, coverage is better and travel becomes easier. Localized ice may be encountered on windward slopes. On leeward slopes watch for unstable snow on lee features such as cornices and windslabs.
Daily Discussion
Warm days and cold nights are starting to form a crust on the snow’s surface. This crust is most prominent on solar aspects but was also found on polar aspects yesterday. Although it is currently breakable and still ‘skiable’ it will continue to strengthen and slowly deteriorate the skiing conditions.
In the alpine, cornices and windslabs on lee slopes are still a lingering concern.
Watch for unstable snow on isolated terrain features.
We need your eyes too. If you’ve been touring in the Alpine National Park we’d love to know what you have seen. Every little bit helps.
