Daily Discussion
Surface conditions will be frozen and hard first thing but will soften as the day warms. Early season conditions is making for difficult travel in the subalpine (1600m-1900m). Shallow cover and natural hazards abound (rocks and downed trees).
In the alpine there is evidence of loading on easterly aspects and in gully features from previous north westerly winds. These wind slabs are sitting on a thin (1cm) rain crust. Watch for unstable snow on isolated terrain features.
We need your eyes too. If you’ve been touring in the Alpine National Park we’d love to know what you have seen. Every little bit helps.
