Field obs from Sunday 15/9/19

Our AST group toured out of Guthega yesterday and despite the high freeze level the wind chill was enough to firm up the surface early. NE aspects softened by 10 and we had great corn until 11. Our pit showed a defiant last snowfall sitting on top an isothermal snowpack. No results however and the hazard moving forward remains wet slides on steeper terrain especially solar aspects early afternoon. Colder temps and some precipitation on should firm it up today but the freeze level climbs through the roof again on Tuesday. By Wednesday we may see a return to the corn harvest again. Remember it's not always about the down, getting out of steeper lower areas in these conditions can be a challenge. With plenty of snow out there keep your skins dry and take advantage of what should be an awesome spring. DH
