MAIN RANGE NSW: RECENT OBSERVATIONS

Observations

 

Region: Kosciusko NP (NSW)

Patrol Description: Independent Professional

Your Location: ITF Rams Head

Preliminary Observation Alert:

: No precipitation.

Recent Snowfall: 20cm

Recent Frontal Event Characteristics: South-East

Visibility: Generally good to very good (2km or more)

Leeward Snowpack (above 1750m): Low Avalanche Danger

Leeward Snowpack (below 1750): Low Avalanche Danger

Windward & Ridgeline Snowpack:

Observation Summary: We have received 20 cm of snow over the last 24 hours. It fell on the ground with no base. Avalanche risk low. Risk associated with sinking in the snow and getting caught by small trees and bush vegetation.

Snowpack Assessments

The schedule for stability assessment reports will be Thursdays and Mondays.  The locations chosen are purposefully 'wind loaded' so that the exaggerated results are easier to asses. Locations are on or above tree-line, although this is 'conditions dependent'.
