CONDITIONS SUMMARY
Recent warm days, below zero nights, melt freeze cycles and wind have left the Main Range a patchwork of conditions. Anything facing south, windward aspects and ridges are firm to say the least even with high freeze levels and reports of surface rime in the alpine are the main features. North aspects will soften during the day and pockets of wind blown snow and graupel are creating a zebra like pattern on lee slopes.
The snowpack is solid with nothing sinister to report from yesterday’s pit. The hazard for the next few days will definitely be dealing with the surface conditions on the up and the down. Following the sun and getting home before the temp drops in the arvo is the go.
