Conditions Summary

Yesterday there was a report of a natural cornice failure at Blue Lake which also triggered a slab on slope. This event occurred sometime on the 31st August or 1st September.

Thank you to all of you who ensured MSC had this information. It is great to see the community come together and share information.

Cheers Marc and Dan! (you know who you are)

Daily Discussion
Temperatures were warm overnight with no refreeze. With rain in the forecast, this also will input significant heat into the snowpack. An increase in heat may be enough to cause further cornice failures. Avoid cornices.

As evident from the event at Blue Lake, a large load can trigger slab instabilities. Avoid slopes under cornices.

Be prepared for a windy and possibly wet Thursday.

Confidence: Moderate

Uncertain of timing and amount of rain in the forecast.

We need your eyes too. If you’ve been in the backcountry we’d love to know what you have seen. Every little bit helps.
