Regional Outlook: Current for 48hrs
At literally the eleventh hour we had the temps drop below minus and snow has fallen. 5cm at 1700m and likely 10cm at 1900m. The winds are strong NNW and will continue. ‘The chance of thunderstorms’ will roll through today which makes makes for a variable correlation across the range with some places receiving more snow/ graupel / rain than others.

Terrain and travel advice
Travel is constrained to the existing trails and pole lines. We have a unsupportive shallow cover breaking through to grass and bushes everywhere else. Take care and rug up as the windchill will reach -13˚ over the next 48hrs. Wind then easing and temps gradually climbing again.
Daily Discussion
The wind transportation is occurring under the influence of a strong NNW wind with leeward aspect SSE-S&E exhibiting drifting and cornice development. The snowdepth has not met threshold and the wet bed surface will yield a strong bond with this new snow.
Confidence: MODERATE due to highly variable ‘Thunder storm’ outlook.
We need your eyes too. If you’ve been touring in the Alpine National Park we’d love to know what you have seen. Every little bit helps.
