Regional Outlook: Current until Wednesday AM.
The sun is out, it feels like the first time in literally weeks, which our records show is the case. The sun last shone through on the 5th of June. It’s Solstice day today too which means some pagan ceremony calling on Ullr to provide more snow is probably in order. A High pressure system on the corner where Bass Strait meets the Tasman is feeding a monster low below WA. Providing us with mild weather over the next few days. This is developing into quite a vigorous depression but the models point at it dissipating as it reaches the ranges. Get dancing folks…

Terrain and travel advice
Plenty firm out there this morning with a healthy 5cm+ rain/melt/rime crust on all aspects providing support which has been the problem lately. There’s also a rime glaze on the SW through to E aspects from storm on Friday night. Reports are that it’s pretty good out there (caveat: pretty good for early season low snow conditions for BC starved cohort who are emerging from lockdown), up high, where the shrub cover is low. North and East aspects will be fun to explore once they have warmed up. Short of that stick to the established trails which are unfortunately a little bit ‘Coral Reef’ with all the traffic over the weekend.
Daily Discussion
With any hope the next few days will be cold enough to invest enough freeze into the marginal snowpack to see it through the prefrontal phase of the next storm. Thursday afternoon looks to be ‘make or break’ time for the existing base, will it be cold enough or will it rain?
We need your eyes too. If you’ve been touring in the Alpine National Park we’d love to know what you have seen. Every little bit helps.
