Conditions Summary

The rain has decimated the lower elevations. Under 1700m is mostly below threshold and has patchy cover. Up to 1800m the snowpack is unsupportive with snowshoers and skiers alike experiencing collapsing around shrubs. Obstacles such as rocks, bushes and holes are appearing and creeks are opening up.

A little higher, above 1800m, the snowpack is more supportive. Yesterday there was a thin crust which had softened by midday and riding conditions were sticky and heavy.

Daily Discussion:

A mix of conditions ahead with periods of limited visibility. Snow, rain and sunny periods in the forecast. Mild overnight temps and drizzle in the sub-alpine will mean the snowpack continues to be unsupportive. Be cautious crossing rivers on snow bridges as they may collapse.

In the alpine be prepared for low visibility or whiteout navigation.

Confidence: MODERATE

Uncertain of exact freezing level for today.

We need your eyes too. If you’ve been touring in the Alpine National Park we’d love to know what you have seen. Every little bit helps.
