Terrain and travel advice
5cm of new snow overnight is not yet enough to dramatically alter the travel conditions in the subalpine. There is still insufficient snow for at the lower elevations for good skiing.
In the alpine, expect whiteout conditions with moderate winds. Whiteout navigation will be necessary if traveling up high today.
Daily Discussion
The snow overnight has fallen with moderated easterly winds. As a result, expect to see atypical loading on north westerly aspects. There is not enough snow yet to alter the avalanche hazard, but this will change with increased amounts. This new snow is sitting on a crust which will potentially act as a sliding layer as more snow and wind continue. Watch for unstable snow at this interface.
We need your eyes too. If you’ve been touring in the Alpine National Park we’d love to know what you have seen. Every little bit helps.
