OBSERVATION SUMMARY
TREND: IMPROVING / ONGOING / DETERIORATING
Front Range: Buller / Stirling
After several days of high winds, loss of base at lower elevations and considerable wind scour - especially on southern facing slopes, the situation is much better after the weekend. There was a welcome top-up on Saturday night and Sunday morning. The underlying bed surface is still super varied and with up to 20cm of fresh at higher elevations, there is the risk of windloaded snowpack in places such as Stanley's Bowl etc. Mt Stirling patrol will assess Stanley's for slide risk during the day (monday 9th) so please check the Mt Stirling website for additional information. If in doubt check in at patrol HQ at Telephone Box junction when heading through.
We assume that the western ridge of Mt Buller has severe wind scouring and variable conditions.
BACK Range: Magdala / Howitt / Viking & Cobbler
We are treating the back side of the Central east as the general advisory for the North East at the moment given the geography and forecast weather pattern.
NB: please note that access roads to the Back Ranges (eg to The Bluff via the Howqua River) may have trees down and icy patches after the weekend storms.
Weather through til Wed 11th July is expected to be partly cloudy with light winds.
