Firm conditions exist in both the alpine and the sub-alpine.
In the sub-alpine, a surface crust on all aspect was supportive to skiing but breakable to walking. The crust softened on solar aspects as the day warmed and good soft skiing was found on northerly aspects in the late morning.
In the alpine, the surface crust is stronger particularly on SE aspects and hard to get a purchase on. NW aspects had isolated areas of firm packed wind blown snow.
Daily Discussion:
Be aware of steep icy slopes. Ski crampons can be useful.
Evaluate wind slabs in the alpine prior to committing to your line.
Choose well supported terrain.
Enjoy the views, and don’t forget your sunscreen!
Heightened avalanche conditions on specific terrain features. Evaluate snow and terrain carefully; identify features of concern.
We need your eyes too. If you’ve been touring in the Alpine National Park we’d love to know what you have seen. Every little bit helps.
Mostly sunny. Winds north to northeasterly and light tending north to northwesterly 15 to 25 km/h in the middle of the day then becoming northerly 20 to 30 km/h in the evening. (Source: BOM)
