Mountain environments can be categorised as above or below the tree line, thus Alpine and Subalpine respectively. Find out more about how these types of terrain can create or mitigate backcountry hazards here.
Travel & Terrain advice:
High winds predicted for the morning, gusts up to 100kmh in the Alpine, creating blizzard conditions. Temps dropping and precip turning to snow in the early hours. Snow above 1600 metres at first, lowering to above 1200 metres by evening. Beware of obstacles above and below treeline due to shallow snowpack, particularly hazardous due to the low visibility.

Soft conditions due to warm temps made for difficult riding. Cover negotiable above treeline although there are still plenty of obstacles. Below treeline cover was boggy and unsupportive with lots of rocks and bushes exposed.
